Supporting Refugees and Asylum Seekers

The Refugee Council USA provides detailed information about the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program, and explains the differences between the refugee resettlement program and the asylum process. The Refugee Council also has information about where  to volunteer or advocate in your community.

The Justice Institutes host events in which participants learn more about the origins of justice and the role we are called to play in terms of welcoming the stranger.  The organization has been very involved in advocating for migrant families on the border and supporting refugee resettlement.

The National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights  provides a database of local organizations operating along the U.S. Southern Border.  It seeks to expand and  defend the rights of all immigrants and refugees by advocating for more humane conditions and no more deaths on the border.

The Linking Communities Project is committed to connecting national and local stakeholders dedicated to supporting refugee resettlement and the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. Currently operating in the following states: MN, NC, TX, OH, PA.

Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) has worked to support former refugees and migrants in the United States for the past 80 years. They manage a pen pal program in which you can write to asylum seekers and migrants currently in detention centers. Writing letters reminds people that they are not alone...

#MeWeInternational uses storytelling and non-violent communication techniques to enhance the psychological well-being and community cohesiveness of refugee and migrant communities around the world.

For Sama

FOR SAMA, directed by filmmaker Waad Al Kataeb and Edward Watts, has received numerous awards and was nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Documentary Feature Category.  The film tells the story of Waad Al Kateab and her life in besieged Aleppo.  She heroically captures the horrors around her and attempts to document her life for her daughter, Sama.

Beyond Soundbites is a faith-based podcast that seeks to highlight stories of displacement told by displaced people.  Director/Producer, Jacob Mau, is currently releasing a new series of episodes focused on sharing the experiences of migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Refugee Magazine is written by and for people living in Kenya’s two largest refugee camps, Kakuma and Dadaab.  Each issue beautifully highlights the amazing stories of truly resourceful and inspiring individuals.  The magazine is supported by FilmAid.

Hosted by Syrian twins, Sarah and Maya Ghassali, Refugees on Air invites former refugees living in Australia to share their experiences and stories.  The episodes are comprised of riveting interviews with activists, authors, artists, lawyers, and engineers – all from a refugee background.

The Refuge Project

If you are interested the European Refugee Crisis, take a second to watch this short film chronicling human stories particularly of those fleeing the terrors of Syria.  The video provides viewers the opportunity to step into the shoes of refugees seeking asylum in Greece.
